Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. This year, Ramadan began at sundown on April 2 and will end at sunset on May 2.
During this time, many of our students and staff need accommodations to properly observe fasting and prayer. Students should reach out to their grade-level ESL teacher to make alternative accommodations for lunch and teachers can post a "food free" sign on their classroom door.
Teachers are asked to allow time for water breaks, provide a quiet space for reflection and prayer and delicately help the other students in their classes understand and appreciate the differences in our learning communities.
