Cincinnati Public Schools' Curriculum Department is presenting two dynamic Black History Month events on Thursday, February 27 — the MLK Oratorical Contest and the CPS Black History Month Jazz Showcase.
The MLK Oratorical Contest will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Education Center, 2651 Burnet Ave. (45219). The event will feature elementary, middle school and high school students expressing how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy has inspired them. Winners of this contest will move on to the state competition in April.
The CPS Black History Month Jazz Showcase will pay musical tribute to the Black Jazz Artists who overcame hardship and injustice to create some of the 20th century's greatest music. The showcase will feature more than 60 CPS elementary and high school students in performance. The event is at 7 p.m. at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center Annex Performance Building, 6620 Montgomery Road (45213). Admission is free.
